Eight-Party Alliance Demands November Referendum and Proportional Representation
A coalition of eight political parties, spearheaded by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, along with Islami Andolan Bangladesh and Khelafat Majlish, gathered at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters on Thursday (October 30) to submit a memorandum outlining five key demands.
The parties’ action was part of a planned demonstration urging the implementation of the July National Charter and calling for fundamental electoral reform.
Key Demands and Warning
The demonstration took place at 11:00 AM, followed by a representative delegation submitting the memorandum at 12:00 PM. During a brief rally, the leaders emphasized that the EC must take necessary measures to ensure a level playing field for the upcoming parliamentary election.
The leaders issued a stern warning to the EC: “If necessary steps are not taken, the current Election Commission will face the same consequences as the previous EC.”
