The Role of a Compassionate Wife in Islam
Marital life is considered a special gift from Allah (SWT), and having a mindful and compassionate wife is indeed a great fortune. Such a spouse is not merely a life partner but a source of profound peace and reliance for her husband. Her presence brings tranquility, warmth, and love into the home.
The harmony of a household, alongside life’s overall balance, often stems from her dedication: her care in managing household affairs, her sincerity in raising children, and her supportive cooperation with her husband make family life easier and happier.
The Foundations of Marriage in the Quran
The bond between husband and wife is the first and most intimate relationship in human civilization. When Allah (SWT) created Prophet Adam (A.S.), He created Hawwa (Eve) as his companion to bring peace to his heart.
The Holy Quran underscores the divine origin of this relationship:
• The Origin of Humanity: “O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one single soul, and from it created its mate, and from the pair of them scattered abroad countless men and women.” (Surah An-Nisa, 4:1)
• The Establishment of Kinship: Highlighting the formation of familial ties, Allah states: “And it is He who has created from water a human being and made him [a subject of] lineage and [a subject of] marriage. And ever is your Lord competent [in creation].” (Surah Al-Furqan, 25:54)
Companionship, Protection, and Tranquility
In this fleeting life, the husband and wife are each other’s helpers and complements. The Quran describes this perfect partnership poetically: “They are your garment and you are their garment.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:187)
The right understanding between a couple brings peace and the shelter of love into their lives. For the wife, the husband’s presence at the end of the day is a sanctuary. For the man, after a long day burdened by a thousand pressures, the comfort of his wife brings a soothing breeze of tranquility.
The Holy Quran beautifully captures this essence of marriage:
“And among His signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquility with them, and He has put between you affection and mercy.” (Surah Ar-Rum, 30:21)
