BNP Nominates Nitai Roy Chowdhury

BNP Nominates Nitai Roy Chowdhury for Magura-2, Overlooking Robiul Islam Nayan

The BNP has announced the nomination of party Vice Chairman Nitai Roy Chowdhury to contest the upcoming election from the Magura-2 constituency. The name was announced by Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference at the Gulshan office on Monday (November 3rd).

Controversy Over Candidate Selection

The announcement comes as a surprise to many, as Robiul Islam Nayan, Member Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Juba Dal (BNP’s youth wing), was a strong potential candidate for the seat and had conducted extensive public relations in the area. Nayan has recently been a figure of public discussion.

The report details the recent controversy surrounding Nayan:

• Extortion Allegation: On Saturday (November 1st), at a roundtable meeting in Paltan, Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), alleged that the money extorted by Juba Dal leader Nayan alone was enough to finance a national referendum. Patwari claimed that certain leaders were engaging in “hooliganism” over the July Charter.

• Nayan’s Response: On Monday, Nayan responded to Patwari, calling the NCP leader “controversial” and accusing him of making “very crude remarks” about various leaders to make himself go viral.

• Defamation Lawsuit: Subsequently, a Juba Dal leader filed a defamation lawsuit against Nasiruddin Patwari over the allegations against Nayan.

Robiul Islam Nayan’s Local Profile

Nayan, a son of Mohammadpur Upazila in Magura, has recently been highly praised for his role in successfully organizing two public rallies and for his continuous communication and effective management of party units from the district to the ward level.

• Activism: Nayan has a history of facing police torture during the previous government’s tenure and has shown courage on the front lines of various movements.

• Community Work: Following the fall of the government, he is widely reported to have expanded his assistance to the helpless and poor across the Magura-2 constituency and remote areas of the district.

• Political Rise: Nayan started his political career in Dhaka’s Chhatra Dal (Student’s Wing) and rose through the ranks due to his leadership and courage, eventually being nominated by Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the post of Member Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South Juba Dal.
