JAGPA Regains Political Registration as Election Commission Issues Notification
The Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) has successfully had its registration as a political party reinstated. The Election Commission (EC) Secretariat issued a notification to this effect on Sunday (November 2nd).
JAGPA initially obtained registration on November 20, 2008, but its registration was canceled on January 28, 2021, after a period of twelve years. On March 19th of this year, the High Court Division declared the cancellation decision illegal. Following that verdict, JAGPA’s registration has been reinstated through a gazette notification signed by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
Party Reaction and Accusations
In an immediate reaction, JAGPA President Barrister Tasmina Pradhan stated:
Tasmina Pradhan said: “The fascist Sheikh Hasina took away our registration, but could not stop our politics. We continued to do politics for the country with patience. Truth has prevailed, and we have regained our political rights.”
Rashed Pradhan, JAGPA Vice President and party Spokesperson, provided a strong political interpretation of the past cancellation:
Rashed Pradhan stated: “Whatever reason the then-EC showed on paper for canceling the registration, the main reason was JAGPA’s firm stance against Indian hegemony and aggression. Therefore, JAGPA’s registration was canceled under the plan of Indian ‘RAW’ and the instructions of the fascist Sheikh Hasina, the servant of India.”
He also alleged internal conspiracy:
“Not just abroad, multiple individuals also tried to conspire in the country using the name Jatiya Ganatantrik Party – JAGPA. All domestic and foreign conspiracies have ended, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God).”
