Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Miah Golam Parwar has strongly urged the government to immediately announce the date for the national referendum, cautioning that any delay will only push the upcoming general election deeper into a state of crisis.
Parwar made this statement today (Wednesday) at a joint press conference held at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka. The press conference was organized by the political parties currently engaged in the simultaneous protest movement, specifically to react to the recommendations made by the National Consensus Commission and to unveil their next course of action.
The Commission’s Omission
The Jamaat Secretary General criticized the Consensus Commission’s final report, stating that it failed to specify when the referendum would be held.
“The report failed to clarify the referendum date, essentially leaving the issue hanging in the air. This has created an unnecessarily complicated situation,” said Parwar. “The ball is now squarely in the government’s court, and the government must take a definitive decision on this matter.”
