No Scope for Corruption”: Religious Affairs Advisor Vows Transparency and Action
Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has asserted that there is “no scope for corruption” within his ministry. While acknowledging the challenges, he stated that his administration is working hard to establish transparency.
The Advisor made these comments today (Friday) while speaking to journalists after attending an event at Panchagarh Darul Uloom Madinatul Islam Madrasa.
Dr. Khalid Hossain stated: “The mess accumulated over 15 years cannot be cleaned up in 15 months. However, I have tried my best. We have been able to build a transparent administration.”
Commitment to Accountability
The Advisor confirmed that his ministry is actively investigating corruption allegations and taking legal action where warranted:
• Model Mosques: “Where irregularities or corruption were found in the Model Mosque projects, a strong investigation committee was formed. The committee will submit its report very soon.”
• Islamic Foundation: An investigation committee led by a former judge was formed to look into irregularities at the Islamic Foundation. Dr. Hossain confirmed that the committee submitted its report yesterday, and “legal action will be taken accordingly.”
Responding to a direct question about corruption, Khalid Hossain emphasized his personal commitment to integrity:
He added: “There is no scope for corruption in my ministry. I myself am not involved in corruption, and I am always vigilant to keep the officers free from corruption.”
The Religious Affairs Advisor also highlighted a major success in restoring financial accountability in Hajj management:
• The ministry has successfully recovered 39 crore Taka from Saudi Arabia that had been frozen and accumulated from agencies involved in past Hajj management issues.
