Woman Bitten by Snake Admits Herself to Hospital with the Snake in Hand

In an unusual incident, a housewife named Razia Sultana (28), a resident of Dinajpur’s Nawabganj Upazila, was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex yesterday (Thursday, October 30th) around 8:00 PM after being bitten by a snake, and she brought the snake with her.

The Incident

Razia Sultana, wife of Md. Belal Hossain from Dharanji village in Daudpur Union, was working in her yard in the evening. As she moved a sack placed on a power tiller, a small snake bit her hand. Her family quickly rushed her to the hospital. Surprisingly, Razia carried the snake with her, secured inside a pot.

Dr. S. M. Al Af Muksed, the Residential Medical Officer (RMO) at the Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the unusual admission:

“A woman was admitted around 8:00 PM after a snakebite, and she arrived with the snake. After examining the snake, we confirmed it is a non-venomous species locally known as ‘Ghor Ginni’ (or Wolf Snake). Nevertheless, the patient has been given all cautionary treatments. Her physical condition is currently stable.”

Observation and Anxiety

Md. Belal Hossain, Razia’s husband, explained the need for observation despite the non-venomous nature of the snake:

“My wife was working in the yard after sunset when the baby snake bit her hand. When we brought her to the hospital immediately, the doctors told us that even though the snake is not venomous, the patient might experience physical reactions due to anxiety and panic. She has to be admitted to the hospital for 24 hours of observation because of this risk.”
