Campaign Teaser Released for 2026 National Parliamentary Election

The first campaign teaser for the upcoming 2026 National Parliamentary Election in Bangladesh has been released. The 48-second video teaser was published on the verified Facebook page of the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government on Sunday (November 2nd).

The teaser was released with a caption on Facebook stating: “The campaign for the 2026 National Parliamentary Election begins today (November 2nd).” The first teaser features Captain (Retd.) Dr. Khan Shubael Bin Rafiq, Coordinator of the investigation into the BDR massacre victims of forced disappearance, urging everyone to participate in the “most important election in history.”

Dr. Rafiq stated: “In February 2026, in a festive atmosphere, we will all go to vote. Through the February election, the people of the country will reclaim ownership of the country.”

This information was confirmed by Suchismita Tithi, Assistant Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, on Sunday afternoon.

The Controversial Opening

The released teaser begins with a viral statement from the former Foreign Minister of the Awami League government, Abdul Momen:

Abdul Momen is seen saying: “What I said in India is that Sheikh Hasina must be kept in power. I request the Government of India to do whatever is necessary to keep her in power.”

This comment by the then-Foreign Minister, regarding keeping the Awami League government’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in power after a series of alleged farcical elections, sparked widespread condemnation across the country at the time. The campaign teaser for the upcoming election starts with this controversial, viral statement.

The Campaign Message

In the teaser, Captain (Retd.) Dr. Khan Shubael Bin Rafiq, Coordinator of the BDR investigation, delivers the central message:

Dr. Khan Shubael Bin Rafiq said: “Leaving those chapters behind, Bangladesh today stands before the most important election in history. Because through this election, you (the people) must take possession of your country. Election 2026, the key to the country is in your hands.”
