JUCUSU Election Schedule to be Announced on Wednesday; Final Code of Conduct to be Released
The official schedule for the Jaganath University Central Students’ Union (JUCUSU) election will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday (November 5th). The final code of conduct for the election will also be published on the same day.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Professor Dr. Mostofa Hasan confirmed this information to Jugantor around 12:00 PM on Tuesday (November 4th).
Professor Dr. Mostofa Hasan stated: “The JUCUSU election schedule will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday (November 5th). The election date will be known then. We will also finalize and publish the election code of conduct tomorrow. We are currently working on the schedule and the code of conduct. I do not think it is appropriate to say more than this at the moment. All details will be provided at the official briefing tomorrow.”
When asked about the Commission’s position regarding the demands of various student organizations, Professor Dr. Mostofa Hasan said, “We have listened to their demands. However, I do not think it is appropriate to comment further on this matter.”
Background and Commission Details
• Draft Code of Conduct: The draft code of conduct for the JUCUSU election was released on the night of October 30th, which notably made Dope Testing mandatory for candidates.
• Consultation: A consultation meeting with student organization leaders and journalists was held on Sunday to gather opinions regarding the code of conduct and the election date.
• Election Commission: The university administration formed a five-member Election Commission on October 29th, headed by Professor Dr. Mostofa Hasan, Chairman of the Social Work Department, as the Chief Election Commissioner.
• Assistant CECs: The Assistant Election Commissioners include Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam (Chairman, Law Department), Professor Dr. Kanij Fatema Kakoli (Physics Department), Professor Dr. Md. Zulfiqar Mahmud (Computer Science and Engineering Department), and Associate Professor Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman (Islamic History and Culture Department).
Note: This will be the first Students’ Union election for Jaganath University students since the university’s establishment.
