Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Imminent Retirement, Says He Won’t Stay in Football

Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted at his impending retirement from football, stating that he will not remain involved with the sport after he steps away. Instead, he plans to spend time with his family and dedicate himself to his other interests and passions.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo said:

“I will retire soon. But I am ready. It will be difficult, yes, maybe I will cry too. It will be very, very difficult. But I have been thinking about my future since I was 25, 26, 27 years old. So, I think I can handle this pressure.”

Current Career and Future Goals

The 40-year-old Ronaldo began his professional career 23 years ago at Portugal’s Sporting CP club. He currently plays for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, where his contract runs until June 2027. He expressed his desire to play for Portugal in the World Cup, which will be held in the US, Canada, and Mexico in the summer of this year.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner mentioned:

“Nothing compares to the excitement of scoring goals in football. But I have other interests. After retirement, I want to keep time for myself, be with my family, raise my children. I want to become more of a family man.”

Ronaldo has five children with his fiancée, Georgina Rodríguez. Their eldest son, Cristiano Jr., currently plays for Al Nassr’s youth team and has represented Portugal at the age-group level.

Business Interests and Post-Football Life

Ronaldo also revealed that his business and interests outside of football are extensive. He achieved his goal of becoming a billionaire at the age of 39. He has 77 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, owns vast properties, and runs his brand ‘CR7,’ which includes various products like underwear and aftershave.

He is currently the Global Ambassador for the Esports World Cup 2025, set to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Ronaldo stated:

“I love watching UFC; I also enjoy playing Padel. I want to learn more about my companies. I will never become a YouTuber, but I want to stay involved with those things. While playing football, I always tried to perform correctly. Now I want to do something new and fun.”
