Captain Nigar Sultana Joty Responds to Teammate Jahanara Alam’s ‘Negative’ Accusations
The Bangladesh Women’s team concluded the ODI World Cup with a sense of regret, securing one victory but potentially missing out on two more wins with minor changes. However, immediately upon their return, the women’s cricket scene was rocked by controversy following an interview given by national team pacer Jahanara Alam. In the interview, she made serious allegations against Captain Nigar Sultana Joty.
Following those allegations, the Bangladesh Captain has now spoken out. She stated:
“Just because I am not saying anything, it doesn’t mean I cannot speak, or that I have nothing to say—it’s not like that! This team belongs to all of us. At a time when this team is going through its best phase, there are so many negative statements, personal vendettas, resentment, and aggressive language being used!”
The Allegations and Joty’s Counter-Argument
Jahanara Alam had alleged that Joty did not respect the senior players and behaved in an authoritarian manner within the team.
Joty, however, believes that Jahanara made these comments because she was not in the team. She expressed her surprise:
“I am very surprised that those who are doing these things once loved and protected this team, established the team at a certain level, and have seen many achievements and failures! When someone is dropped from the team or is out of form, and another option replaces them, suddenly everything about that team becomes bad—the people, the environment—everything!”
Joty concluded by paying respect to those who maintain faith in the team:
“Respect comes to those who keep faith in this team and its members! Even if spreading rumors brings temporary attention, I hope it will not be effective.”
BCB’s Official Stance
Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had issued a statement in response to the allegations:
“The BCB strongly rejects the multiple allegations made against the current national team captain, players, officials, and team management as completely baseless, fabricated, and untrue. The Board finds such confusing statements highly unfortunate, especially at a time when the Bangladesh Women’s team has been able to demonstrate commendable progress and unity on the international stage.”
