Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman Resigns Post to Contest National Election
Md. Asaduzzaman, the Chief Law Officer of the state (Attorney General), has announced his decision to resign from his position to contest the upcoming National Parliament Election.
He made the announcement on Wednesday (November 5th) at a press conference held in the Attorney General’s Office Conference Room, following the appeal hearing on the return of the caretaker government system.
Regarding his participation in the election, he further stated:
“I have sought nomination from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). I am hopeful I will get the nomination.”
Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman said, “I will contest the election. I have sought nomination there [in the constituency]. I will contest the election, and I am still the Attorney General. I will leave my Attorney General position and contest the election. When the time comes, I will do it.”
When asked “Who will replace you?” Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman simply replied, “Whomever Bangladesh deems fit.”
Md. Asaduzzaman, a Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court and former Human Rights Affairs Secretary of the BNP, was appointed as the Attorney General of the country on August 8th of last year.
Asaduzzaman is seeking to contest the Jhenaidah-1 constituency. He is an aspirant for the BNP’s nomination. However, his name was not included in the list of 237 candidates already published by the BNP.
