BNP Denounces Fake AI-Generated Videos of Mirza Fakhrul Announcing Candidates

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has claimed that a circle of vested interests is circulating fabricated and imaginary videos on social media to mislead the public, using the name and image of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir by copying his voice.

This information was released in a press statement signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday night (November 1st).

Details of the Misinformation

The statement alleges:

“Some vested interests are publishing untrue videos on social media by editing pictures and speeches from old press conferences, and some are using AI technology to mimic Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s voice. These videos claim to show the BNP Secretary General announcing the final list of the party’s Member of Parliament (MP) candidates for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. Such videos are not only untrue but are completely fabricated and baseless.”

the press release further emphasized that these fabricated and imaginary videos, using the BNP Secretary General’s name and image, are being disseminated by the malicious group solely to create confusion among the public.

The BNP urged the general public, party activists, and MP hopefuls not to be misled by such edited videos.
