BNP Leader Alleges Use of Islam to Create National Division Ahead of Election
Salauddin Ahmed, a standing committee member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has commented that a political party is attempting to use Islam to create division within the nation ahead of the election.
He made this remark while speaking as a special guest at the Islamic conference titled ‘Azmate Sahaba’ at the central Eidgah in Narayanganj on Saturday afternoon (November 1st).
Salauddin Ahmed stated: “In Bangladesh, we always observe the use of Islam in politics, especially before elections, and its exploitation through various means to gain political advantage. We are noticing this even more intensely lately.”
He alleged that a specific political party is trying to use Islam for its political and electoral interests to “bring division within the nation,” particularly to “harm Islam.” He suggested that more ‘Azmate Sahaba’ conferences are needed in Bangladesh in response to this trend.
The BNP leader advised people to stay away from those who seek to create confusion by exploiting Islam.
He emphasized: “There is no politics here. I have said initially, for us, ‘Deen’ (religion) comes first, and ‘Duniya’ (the world) comes after. Therefore, we must consider this: statements given by people in the name of politics due to different ideologies are welcome. But let us not take Islam to a place where our faith can be damaged for political reasons.”
While Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari, the Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, was scheduled to attend as the chief guest, he did not appear. However, the organization’s Secretary General, Sajidur Rahman, addressed the stage.
The event, presided over by Mufti Monir Hossain Kasemi, the Amir of the Narayanganj district branch of Hefazat-e-Islam, saw the attendance of leaders and activists from the BNP, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and Hefazat-e-Islam.
