Cases Filed Against Over 1,250 Unknown Students Following Violent University Clashes in Savar

Separate lawsuits have been filed with the Savar Police Station following a violent clash, marked by vandalism, arson, and looting, between students of two adjacent private universities in Birulia, Savar.

Both City University and Daffodil International University filed two distinct cases late on Tuesday night, naming over 1,000 unknown individuals as accused in total.

The Lawsuits in Detail

• City University’s Case: The case was filed by Registrar Mir Akhtar Hossain, naming 1,000 unknown individuals. The charges include vandalism, arson, looting, and attacking their students on the campus.

• Daffodil International University’s Case: This lawsuit was lodged by Assistant Administrative Officer Mohammad Aftab Uddin, naming 250 unknown individuals. This case alleges that Daffodil students were beaten and tortured after being confined inside the City University campus, in addition to physical assault on over 200 of their students

The Origin of the Conflict

The violent confrontation began on Sunday night (October 26) in the Khagan area of Birulia, following a minor argument over a student spitting.

The incident rapidly escalated into a major brawl between students of the two private universities. During the chaos, widespread destruction and looting occurred on the City University campus. Mobs of students reportedly set fire to several vehicles and educational materials, causing extensive damage.

Police reported that over 150 students from both universities were injured during the clash.

The Officer-in-Charge (Operation) of Savar Police Station, Helal Uddin, confirmed the receipt of both cases and stated that investigations are underway to identify the culprits from both sides.
