Love Triangle Turmoil: Niece-in-Law on Hunger Strike at Nephew’s Home, Groom Flees

SIRAJGANJ, Bangladesh – A bizarre family drama unfolded in Boaliya village, Tarash upazila, Sirajganj, where an 18-year-old woman—who is the niece-in-law of the groom’s uncle—has been staging a hunger strike at her boyfriend’s home for two days, demanding marriage.

The boyfriend, Sohan Hossain (20), reportedly fled the village as soon as he learned his demanding girlfriend had arrived. Sohan is the son of Jabbar Sarkar, who lives in the same village.

The Complex Relationship

According to local residents, the romantic relationship between Sohan (the nephew) and the young woman (the uncle’s sister-in-law) had been going on for some time. Since both families live in the same area, they were able to visit each other easily.

This is not the first time the young woman has demanded marriage at Jabbar Sarkar’s house; she was previously persuaded to leave. However, upon hearing she had started a sit-in and hunger strike this time, Sohan immediately vanished.

Family Lockout and Public Outrage

Eyewitnesses report a large crowd of curious onlookers gathered outside Sohan’s house. When media personnel arrived, Jabbar Sarkar’s family refused to speak. While the young woman remains on hunger strike inside, Sohan’s father has reportedly barred anyone from entering or speaking with her.

Locals expressed anger at Sohan’s “anti-social activities” and even attempted to block the path leading to the family’s house, though curious crowds ignored the blockade.

Union Parishad (UP) Member Solaiman Hossain confirmed the situation:

“I spoke with the woman. She informed me that their relationship has lasted for about a month and a half. She has been staying at Jabbar’s house since Monday night, but the boy has fled.”

When contacted about the incident, Tarash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ziaur Rahman stated, “I am not yet aware of the matter. No one has officially informed us, so I cannot comment on it.”
