Pakistan Claims Arrest of Alleged Indian Intelligence Agent
Pakistan’s Information Minister Atta Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry announced that the country’s law enforcement agencies have arrested a fisherman allegedly working for an Indian intelligence agency.
They provided this information at a press conference in Islamabad on Saturday, as reported by the Indian media outlet Geo News.
The Allegations and Capture
The ministers claimed that the arrested individual, identified as Ijaz Mallah, was apprehended by Indian authorities in September of this year and taken to an unknown location. There, he was reportedly instructed to carry out specific tasks before being sent back to Pakistan.
• Recruitment: Information Minister Tarar stated that “Indian agencies lured and threatened Mallah—promising him up to three years in prison if he did not cooperate. He was subsequently sent to Pakistan with instructions for certain tasks.”
• Mission: Mallah was allegedly instructed to collect Pakistani military, naval, and Rangers uniforms, local SIM cards, and phone bills for intelligence gathering purposes.
• Arrest: Pakistani intelligence agencies monitored Mallah’s activities. He was arrested while attempting to return to India.
The Information Minister stated that Mallah confessed to his crimes upon arrest. The Pakistani government has released a video of his confession, where Mallah reportedly says that Indian agents threatened him with imprisonment if he did not cooperate.
Pakistan’s Stance and Response
Atta Tarar alleged that India’s engagement in such destructive activities is a result of its instability caused by Pakistan’s recent strategic and diplomatic successes.
Tarar said: “Our intelligence agencies kept an eye on him when he was seen buying Army and Rangers uniforms and local SIM cards.”
The ministers claimed that several items, including Pakistani SIM cards, matchboxes, and lighters, which were intended to be handed over to Indian counterparts, were recovered from Mallah at the time of his arrest.
Tarar further stated that Mallah was working for an Indian intelligence agency and was tasked with collecting sensitive materials.
He accused: “After the failure of India’s so-called ‘Operation Sindoor,’ they have initiated anti-Pakistan propaganda. This false narrative is a reflection of India’s frustration following its diplomatic and military failures.”
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry added that the arrested agent was instructed to procure a SIM card from a specific mobile company. He also praised the Pakistani media for accurately representing the country’s image on the international stage.
