Ramadan 2026 Forecast to Begin February 19th; UAE Astronomy Society Provides Preliminary Calculation
According to preliminary astronomical calculations, the holy month of Ramadan in 2026 is forecast to begin on Thursday, February 19th. This means there are exactly 138 days remaining until the start of Ramadan. This information was provided by the Astronomy Society of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
New Moon Visibility and Start Date
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Astronomy Society, stated that the new moon signaling the start of Ramadan will begin to rise on Tuesday, February 17th, at 4:01 PM UAE time.
• However, on that evening, the moon will set only one minute after sunset, making the sighting of the crescent moon impossible that evening.
• Therefore, the preliminary estimation is that Ramadan will begin on Thursday, February 19th.
• The final decision remains dependent on the official observation and ruling of the relevant committee.
Fasting and Daylight Hours
At the start of Ramadan in Abu Dhabi, the fasting period will be approximately 12 hours and 46 minutes. This duration is expected to increase to 13 hours and 25 minutes by the end of the month.
The overall daylight duration during this time will increase from 11 hours and 32 minutes to 12 hours and 12 minutes.
