Robinho Gives First Interview From Brazilian Prison

Former Brazilian forward Robinho, currently serving a nine-year sentence in Brazil for a rape conviction in Italy, has given his first interview from jail, expressing shame and devastation. The 41-year-old former star for Real Madrid and Manchester City has been incarcerated in a São Paulo prison since March 21, 2024.

In the video interview, the disgraced star stated that he is treated just like any other inmate and receives no special privileges due to his past as a footballer.

Robinho said: “I eat the same food as the other inmates. I go to sleep and wake up at the same time. I do the same work that everyone else does. On Sundays, our day off, we are allowed to play football.”

He elaborated on his life behind bars:

He added: “I don’t get any extra privileges. On Saturdays or Sundays, visitors are allowed to meet with the inmates. My wife never comes alone; she brings the children. The eldest son plays football. The two younger ones come with their mother.”

Robinho noted that despite being in jail for a year and a half, he has “never had a fight with anyone,” not even during football games.

Background of the Conviction

Robinho was involved in a rape case in Italy in January 2013 while playing for AC Milan. After being convicted in an Italian court, his lawyer successfully applied for the sentence to be served in Brazil upon his return to the country. Robinho was subsequently arrested upon arrival, marking the beginning of his prison sentence.
