Rubaba Dowla Appointed as New BCB Director, Becomes Second Woman to Hold the Post

Rubaba Dowla, a well-known corporate personality in the country, has been appointed as a new director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The National Sports Council (NSC) confirmed the information on Monday.

Rubaba Dowla becomes the second female director in the history of the BCB. Before her, Monowara Anis Minu held the position in 2007. Rubaba is expected to join the BCB board meeting today as the new NSC-nominated director.

Replacement and Controversy

She is replacing Ishfaque Ahsan. The official NSC notice stated that Ishfaque voluntarily resigned.

Following the BCB board election held on October 6th, the NSC had nominated two directors: Ishfaque Ahsan and Yasir Mohammad Faysal Ashiq. However, a controversy erupted over Ishfaque’s nomination after it was revealed that he had previously been associated with the ruling Awami League and had sought party nomination for the Chandpur-2 constituency in the last national election.

The NSC initially indicated his removal but later clarified that Ishfaque had resigned voluntarily. Rubaba Dowla was subsequently appointed in his place.

Rubaba Dowla’s Profile

Rubaba Dowla currently serves as the Country Managing Director of Oracle Bangladesh, also overseeing operations in Nepal and Bhutan. Previously, she held senior positions at Grameenphone and Airtel.

Beyond her corporate career, she has an active role in sports administration:

• She served as the President of the Bangladesh Badminton Federation from 2009 to 2015.

• She is currently a Board Member of Special Olympics Bangladesh.
